How do I pay my bills in Sweden?

Paying bills in Sweden is mostly done online, either through your bank’s website or app. BankID is crucial here—it's used to verify your identity for payments. Many people set up "autogiro" (direct debit) to automatically pay recurring bills like rent, subscriptions and utilities. You’ll also see OCR-nummer on your bills—this long number is important for making sure your payment goes to the right account for the right invoice. In most bank apps, you can scan the invoice and get all info added automatically.

In some instances, for example gym memberships, you can use your debit or credit card for recurring charges, and sometimes you can also pay your bills through Swish or Kivra. If you're old-school, you can pay at the bank or post office, but most Swedes prefer the digital route.
