BankID is the digital magic wand in Sweden—it’s used for everything from logging into your bank, to signing contracts and even being able to sign up for and use most Swedish apps. Without it, life in Sweden can for sure be tricky, but it's of course not impossible to get around without it.

If you do skip it, or simply can't get it, you’ll need to handle most things the old-school way—paper forms, email sign ups, physical signatures, and phone calls. For banking, you can for example use your physical debit card and PIN. But honestly, getting a BankID should be a priority if you plan to live in Sweden for a longer term; it’s the key to unlocking most of the everyday life in Sweden.
