Relocating to Sweden is an exciting adventure, and bringing your beloved cat or dog along is possible with the right preparation and planning. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the essentials.

Requirements to Bring Your Pet to Sweden

1. ID Marking

All pets must be ID-marked with a microchip. This microchip must be implanted by a veterinarian or an authorized individual and should be done before or simultaneously with the rabies vaccination. Ensure the microchip number is recorded in the pet’s passport.

2. Rabies Vaccination

Your pet must have a valid rabies vaccination. The initial vaccination must be administered when your pet is at least 12 weeks old and at least 21 days before traveling. Ensure the vaccination details are accurately recorded in the pet’s passport.

3. EU Pet Passport

Pets traveling from EU countries need an EU pet passport issued by an authorized veterinarian. For non-EU countries, a health certificate (form E9.207) is required. The passport includes vital information such as the pet's ID number, rabies vaccination details, and owner information.

4. Customs Reporting

Once you arrive in Sweden, you must report your pet to Swedish customs. This can also be done online upfront before you travel, if you are traveling from another EU country. Have your pet's passport and the notification number ready if requested by customs officers.
